Policy & regulation
As the UK’s largest generator of electricity and a major supplier of electricity to business customers, British Energy takes an active role in the development of Government energy and environmental policy, as well as the way UK energy markets are regulated.
The regulation group is part of the company's legal & corporate affairs division. Based at our Barnwood offices and led by David Love, head of corporate regulation, their primary responsibility is to manage British Energy’s relationships with those organisations who influence the framework of energy market regulation in the UK and Europe. These include the Department of Trade and Industry and the electricity and gas regulator, Ofgem, as well as the UK’s financial services regulator, the FSA.
Other departments within British Energy manage the Group’s relationship with other key regulators such as the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate (NII) and the environment agencies in England & Wales (EA) and in Scotland (SEPA).
As part of its work the regulation group responds regularly to policy consultations by Government departments and to consultations by Ofgem on market related issues. To help you understand British Energy’s position on some of the current issues facing the UK energy markets, we have published our responses to a selection of recent Government and regulatory consultations.
